The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage in the wrist that carries the median nerve and the tendons that bend your fingers. When the tissues inside it swell, the nerve gets squeezed, causing numbness, tingling or weakness in the thumb and first three fingers, often worse at night. Repetitive hand use, pregnancy and some health conditions make it more likely. Laser therapy and soft-tissue work can help reduce the inflammation and tension around the wrist.
